Robin Foster, Matthew Grigg & Tom Ward

Robin Foster is a musician and researcher from Bristol, UK. Most active in the fields of improvisation and noise music, his work often makes use of found objects, and is concerned with the relationship of humans to the things they surround themselves with.

Matthew Grigg is a Bristol-based musician active across free musics. Drawing on intuitive technique, close listening, signal noise & feedback, he has collaborated extensively with artists such as Tina Hitchens, Colin Webster, Charlotte Keefe & Dominic Lash.

Tom Ward is a musician, composer and computer programmer based in south-east London. His primary instrument remains the saxophone, but is these days equally likely to be heard exploring bass clarinet and flute.

John Butcher, Phil Durrant & Mark Wastell

Born in Brighton and living in London, John Butcher is a saxophonist whose work ranges through improvisation, his own compositions, multitracked pieces and explorations with feedback, unusual acoustics and non-concert locations. He is well known as a solo performer who attempts to engage with a sense of place.

Born near London in 1957, Phil Durrant is a multi-instrumentalist improviser/composer/sound artist who currently performs solo and group concerts.

Mark Wastell is a versatile improvising musician who has played a central role in the British improvised music scene for over a quarter of a century.

Charlotte Keeffe, N.O. Moore & Peter Cusack

British musician, trumpeter and flugelhorn player Charlotte Keeffe wears her love for free improvisation, jazz and experimental music on her sleeve. Whether performing regularly as a soloist (Sound Brush), or leading a variety of different ensembles, including her Right Here, Right Now Quartet, she carefully carves out spaces for the free movement of ideas and individual expression.

N.O. Moore is an electric guitarist with a parallel interest in electronics and drum machines. As an improviser, he has played with people such as Eddie Prévost, John Butcher, Rachel Musson, John Edwards, Sue Lynch, Alan Wilkinson, Steve Noble, and Steve Beresford. He can now be heard on a number of recordings, including Nous (with Prévost and Jason Yarde) on Matchless, and The Secret Handshake with Danger (with Henry Kaiser, Binker Golding, Olie Brice, and Prévost) on 577.

Peter Cusack is a field recordist and musician with a long interest in the acoustic environment. He initiated the “Favourite Sounds Project” to discover what people find positive about everyday soundscapes and ‘Sounds from Dangerous Places’ that uses sonic journalism to investigate places of major environmental damage in such places as the Chernobyl exclusion zone, the Aral Sea, Central Asia and lignite mining areas in Europe.
